GlobalMET-TK Foundation Professional Development Workshop Programme, Philippines.

28 April to 02 May 2014 saw the first phase of a significant learning programme to review and bridge perceived gaps between the STCW Code and current practice in the Philippines.

The initiative started with the Asian Development Bank’s sponsorship of the Fisher Report (2013). This identified steps to improve the quality of maritime education and training in the region. In response to one recommendation, GlobalMET initiated this development project and arranged the venue and facilitation. The programme has been funded by the TK Foundation and was delivered at the superb facilities of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) in Bataan.

The week was facilitated by Dr Christopher Haughton, United Kingdom and Captain Richard Teo, Australia.

The delegates have now embarked on a six-month research project and the second phase will comprise a shorter workshop and presentation. The precise date and venue of the presentation are still to be decided. Please check the GlobalMET website for details.
